Family Promise of the Main Line’s (formerly, IHN-ML) 30th Anniversary Celebration was a huge success. Thank you to all who attended and supported our event. Because of your support, caring hearts, and passion for your community, we have helped over 450 families experiencing homelessness over the past 30 years. 99% of these families have maintained housing stability.

Thank you to all who attended and supported the Family Promise of the Main Line’s 30th Anniversary event. It was a great time with fabulous people and excellent speakers sharing the history and their stories of Family Promise of the Main Line. FPML is looking forward to 30 more years of helping vulnerable families.

A Message from  family promise of the Main Line

Unity

Over the last few weeks, many of us have experienced feelings of loss, pain, righteous anger, and sadness. We have watched videos and listened to stories from people who have experienced life differently, or maybe we have heard stories that triggered a personal experience in our own lives.

These emotions, these stories, these authentic lived experiences call us to take action, to open our eyes, to see things through new lenses, but most importantly to strive to make things better as we come together and work toward justice for all.

Police violence, School to prison pipeline, Mass incarceration, Homelessness, Systemic Racism – “Our Silence does not protect us” (Audre Lorde). This is not a time to be neutral. This is a time to LISTEN, to LEARN, and to ACT.

The three words, written by Claas Ehlers (Family Promise National), LISTEN, LEARN, ACT, are so very important. They are a call to action. A call that has been heard by many throughout our nation and a call that is heard at IHN-ML.

As an organization that is called to end homelessness, create social justice, and act in faith, we must stand ready to LISTEN, LEARN and ACT. LISTEN to those that experience injustice, trauma, and despair. LEARN as we walk together on a new path, a path leading out of despair, a path leading out homelessness, and a path that leads toward hope. ACT in a way that promotes healing promotes equity, and builds connection.

We are grateful that we are not alone as we Listen, Learn, and Act. We are thankful for volunteers that LISTEN to the stories and experiences of families in our program. Volunteers and donors who are called to ACT by welcoming all who walk through their door as well as share food and resources with strangers.

As an organization, FPML stands ready to commit to continuing to LEARN from those whose story includes marginalization, racism, injustice, and homelessness. We are outraged at the pain that others have endured, we are humbled to learn and eager to understand how our actions may have contributed to that, and we are hopeful. We are hopeful that unity and change are on the horizon.

Every year 600,000 families with 1.35 million children experience homelessness in the United States, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness. Families are the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population, accounting for almost 50% of the nation’s homeless. Typically, families become homeless as a result of some unforeseen financial crisis – a medical emergency, a car accident, a death in the family – that prevents them from being able to hold on to housing. Family Promise of the Main Line provides a caring and positive environment for homeless families while they design and implement a plan to break the cycle of homelessness in their lives. Using area congregations and the energy of several hundred community volunteers, FPML is dedicated to helping families who seek to be accountable, resilient, and strive for a better tomorrow.
